Leora, founder of Rothschild Safaris joining us today to talk more about her background and the company so you can see why I partner with them to create your itineraries to Africa. No detail goes untouched, which is extremely important when traveling throughout the continent!
Background
I have been helping people travel my entire life. I started Rothschild Safaris in 1998, seeing an opportunity to do better than any of the safari companies I’d worked with previously.Β Β Iβve built a company that really personalizes the travel experience. I remember going on a family safari as a child- we had meals around a campfire, and got close to lions on foot. I want to help people get that feeling of wonder and appreciation for nature!
Company Focus
Everything at Rothschild Safaris is client-centered and customized. All of our travel designers spend plenty of time actually traveling, making sure that properties that say they are family oriented really have engaging and interesting activities for children and that everything is in order- things change all the time, and we keep our finger on the pulse of what is happening. Our time on the ground allows us to cultivate relationships with all the right people, which is critical.
Most unique thing weβve booked
All of our trips are unique! Thatβs one of the things that makes a Rothschild Safariβs trip special- we really tailor it to the individual interests of every client. Weβve jumped through hoops to set up a gourmet hot lunch on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, had a private romantic meal on the Zambezi river rowed out course by course as the sun turned the water pink, and are in the process of creating a totally unique horseback safari in the Masai Mara. Honestly we can do almost anything, and have SO much fun in the process!
Favorite Place
There are so many, and of course people ask all the time! Out of all the amazing experiences that Iβve had, the one that really sticks out to me is gorilla trekking. When I reflect on why this experience has my heart, it has to be the profound feeling of being up close with these magnificent creatures. I can still smell the scent of the bush and feel the sheer exhilaration as our guide slashed his way, steadfast through the thick overgrown forest with a machete. I recall the pounding of my heart in my chest as I stood nakedly vulnerable before a wild creature so majestic, and so intimidating. The connection was so intense.
Best Place for Families
A lot of first time Africa travelers are concerned about bringing their children…let it be known, Africa isΒ perfect for families! A great example is the Grootbos Lodge, where there’s plenty of space for kids to run free and explore. An added bonus is that they have an opportunity to see the “Marine Big 5”.
